Forgot to mention in my last blog that I bought myself a new SUV at the end of the year. I love my T-Bird, but I also needed something with some more room for when I need to carry packages, luggage, etc. Plus I wanted something I could pull my boat with if need be. It's a 2003 Mazda Tribute and so far I really love it. Here's a pic.....
Had to go to Kansas City for a week for a business meeting. I won't say much about that other than it was very very long and very very exhausting in every possible way, and I got to see none of Kansas City since we virtually never even left the hotel the entire week. My room did overlook the Liberty Memorial and National World War I Museum, and I snapped a pic of that after a particularly pretty snowfall.
From Kansas City, I flew back to Atlanta to see Barry in concert on Saturday 1/19. Was really looking forward to that since my Barry buds Lois, Joy, Laurie O., and Lyn were coming in for the show and it has been a long time since all of us had been on a Barry trip together. Woke up Saturday morning to snow falling on Atlanta...nothing drastic, just a wet snow that was falling pretty steadily and laying on the ground but not on the roads. But Atlanta had gone into disaster mode, with all channels stopping regular programming and going to non-stop reporting on the impending snowstorm. Uhhh....OK. Lyn had already gotten there, and Joy, Lois, and Laurie were enroute from Chattanooga, when the news announcer said the Barry concert for that night had been postponed due to the weather. I had to make the call to the girls who at first thought I must be joking. (See Lois' blog at http://onniepop.blogspot.com/ for pics of the phone call from their end.)
Sadly, I was not. The real fear supposedly was that it was supposed to get very very cold that evening and whatever snow was currently on the roads was going to freeze in a big way, making travel treacherous. Uhhhh....OK. Since we were already there, Lyn and I decided to go grab some brunch at a great restaurant in Virginia Highlands called Murphy's, and as we sat there eating, the snow completely stopped, and within a couple hours (before nightfall), all roads were virtually dry. I spent the night in Atlanta and by that evening there wasn't even a drop of snow anywhere. Oh well....Barry has now rescheduled for March 29 and so far it looks like everyone's schedules are compatible so apparently we will get our Barry weekend after all.
This past Friday night I made a spur of the moment decision to go to Winston-Salem, NC to see Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson together in concert. What a GREAT show...best concert I've seen in a long time. They were onstage together the entire time and seemed to be having a blast. It was really a fantastic show.
